George Iwao Arai, 84, of Hilo died Sept. 24 at the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Papaikou, he worked at the former Dole Cannery on Oahu, former Paramount Grill and was a U.S. Army veteran. Private services. No flowers; no koden. Survived by sisters, Tsuruko Daimaru of Hilo, Evelyn (Hiroshi) Inouye of Paukaa; brother, Herbert (Setsuko) Arai of Kaneohe, Oahu; sister-in-law, Susan Arai of Hilo; numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Jane “Jana” Ballesteros, 77, of Honokaa died Sept. 24 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Kalopa, she was a retired custodian for Honokaa High and Intermediate School, a member of the Red Hat Society at Hale Hoola Hamakua and a board member of the Resident Council at Hale Hoola Hamakua. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Sunday at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; funeral at 11 a.m.; burial to follow at Honokaa County Cemetery. Casual attire; no flowers. Kanae Inouye Kita, 87, of Hawi died Sept. 30 at home. Born in Waimea, she was a retired housekeeper for the former Westin Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, proprietress of the former Kita Store in Hawi and member of the Hawi Jodo Mission. Kunio “Naka” Nakahara, 83, of Hilo died Sept. 28 at Pohai Malama Hospice Facility. Born March in Olaa, he was a retired plan designer from Hawaii Electric Light Co., a retired sergeant first class with the Hawaii Army National Guard and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission, Big Island National Guard Retirees Association and Hauoli Community Association.
